Laura talks about her volunteering and allotment activities

“I volunteer at The Dogs Trust Charity shop two mornings a week. I have been working there for 7 years. Mum and I went into the shop and asked if I could volunteer  I started in the back room sorting and culling donations. Now I work on the till at the front of the shop, sometimes I put donations on the shelves. The till is like a computer and I love using it. I really enjoy stroking the dogs that come into the shop, All the dogs come in a variety of breeds and different shapes and sizes. I like meeting the customers and serving them. I have help  from people who support me.

I have visited the Allotment a few times. Belinda told me about it. It is quite a long way from where I live. It gave me inspiration and ideas for me to start my mini Allotment. My support worker Rachel Watkins helped me last year and I grew sweetcorn, strawberries, cucumber, runner beans, leeks, spring onion, lettuce etc. Gardening works well for my mental health.”
