A few weekends ago, Daniel celebrated a very special milestone – his 21st birthday.
For us, this was about much more than organizing a birthday party. We wanted Daniel’s celebration to truly reflect him, with his needs, preferences, and wellbeing at the center of the planning.
In the lead-up to the celebration, I coordinated with the team to ensure we were well prepared and that everyone understood how best to support Daniel throughout the day. We considered the environment, activities, and potential risks carefully so that Daniel could enjoy his celebration safely without taking away from the experience itself.
It was wonderful to see everything come together. Daniel celebrated in his home alongside his housemates, creating a lovely, shared experience and giving them the opportunity to be part of his special day. The team worked together throughout the celebration to make the occasion as enjoyable and comfortable for Daniel as possible.
And the celebrations did not stop there….
… The following day, Daniel went bowling with his housemates as part of his birthday celebrations. Tomson, coordinated the bowling outing and supported Daniel alongside the team. It was another opportunity for Daniel to spend time with his housemates, enjoy an activity in the community and continue celebrating this important milestone.
What made the weekend particularly meaningful was seeing Daniel supported to celebrate his 21st birthday in a way that was centered around him. It was about creating positive experiences, enjoying time with the people around him, being included and having the opportunity to celebrate an important life milestone just as any other young person should.
It was also a wonderful example of what can be achieved when a team works together with a shared purpose. Everyone contributed in different ways, from the planning and preparation of the birthday party to supporting Daniel and his housemates during the celebrations and coordinating the bowling outing the following day.
I am very proud of the team’s contribution, including Tomson’s coordination of the bowling event, but above all, this was Daniel’s weekend – his birthday, his milestone and his celebration.
