A goodbye letter from Tapiwa

A lovely sunny afternoon saw people we support, and staff gather to say farewell to Tapiwa on his last day, after over six years at Kingwood. With anecdotes that were both funny and moving, we were so pleased to share our gratitude for all that Tapiwa has done for the people we support, their families and our staff.

Dear all Kingwood

I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone for such a warm, generous and genuinely moving send off.

Seeing everyone together on such a beautiful sunny afternoon meant a great deal to me. I was completely caught off guard by the “welcoming party” greeting me at the door wearing Tapiwa face masks slightly unsettling, highly amusing and somehow very fitting 😊.

Thank you for all the effort, the kindness, the stories, the laughter, the cake, the gifts and the incredibly thoughtful messages in the card. Hearing the speeches, anecdotes and memories shared was both funny and deeply moving. For once, I really was speechless.

Over the years we have shared difficult moments, uncertainty, successes, frustrations, humour and a huge amount of learning together. Looking back, I realise how much those experiences and the people around me have shaped me both professionally and personally.

Thank you also for putting up with my storytelling over the years and for all the jokes about where one of my stories was eventually going to end up 😊. I do hope that, somewhere down the line, some of those stories may resonate a little differently and that the meaning behind them might stay with people in useful ways.

What I will remember most is the care, commitment and humanity that people brought to the work, especially during difficult times. It has genuinely been a privilege to work alongside you all and to spend time with so many amazing people we support and colleagues over the years.

Thank you again for the kindness and generosity shown to me. I will use the leaving gift to buy books and a small memento to remember my time with you all.

Imagine the stories I will tell about all of you 😊

I wish every one of you all the very best for the future.

Please look me up on LinkedIn and feel free to say hi.
