Laura Steare, a young lady we support in Hampshire, has written about a wonderful golf day, organised by her family friend, Jean Milford.
‘Every year the Lady Captain of the golf club selects a charity for fundraising. This year the Lady Captain, Jean Milford chose Autism at Kingwood as her close friend has been supported by them for nearly 10 years.
Jean has seen how Laura has benefitted from the support from Kingwood. It has enabled her to volunteer in a charity shop, develop her own garden and to be more independent in every day skills.
The day began early with the arrival of the first group of lady golfers. They had coffee and a pastry before going out to play 18 holes of golf on a sunny day.
A total of 80 ladies came from all over Hampshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire, their entry fees were generously donated by Leaderboard, the owners of Sandford Springs to Kingwood. The ladies were encouraged to buy raffle tickets, plants, cakes with all funds going to the charity.
Kingwood were well represented throughout the day by Philippa who arrived early and provided leaflets and banners to show what Kingwood can provide for young Autistic adults. Laura came with one of her support workers Rachel Watkins and her Mum.
At the end of the afternoon, the ladies had enjoyed a challenging but fun round of golf.
The total raised on the day was £2500 which was then added to by a direct donation of £100 to Kingwood.
There are further opportunities to fundraise throughout the summer months.
In January 2024,  Jean’s Captain’s year ends, and a cheque will be presented to Philippa at that time.’
