For over 15 years, Lucy has been passionate about cameras and film making.
Lucy is a member of the Shadowlight Artists, who are a group of multi-awarding winning learning disabled and autistic artists based at the arts charity Film Oxford. Lucy was one of the group’s founding members in 2009 and has created many films and art installations, which she has shown at art galleries and Film Festivals.
In 2022, Lucy created an experimental documentary called “My Cameras”, which explores her obsession with vintage video cameras (she has a collection of over 50). In the film, Lucy revisits various locations in her hometown of Didcot, which she had originally filmed ten years earlier in 2012. Many of the locations had radically changed or even completely disappeared, showing how fast the town was changing. The film was part of an exhibition at Modern Art Oxford in 2022 called Captured Moments, where Lucy also created two video installations using her vintage cameras. https://shadowlightartists.org.uk/captured-moments/
“My Cameras” has been nominated for an award at the Oska Bright International Film Festival 2024 in Brighton, which is the world’s leading festival for films made by or featuring people with learning disabilities or autism. The winners will be announced at the award ceremony on 15th March 2024, at which Lucy will be attending.
