An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an experienced HR & Recruitment Officer to join our busy Human Resources Department at Autism at Kingwood.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and friendly person to join a growing, charity based in Reading, Berkshire that provides person-centred support to approximately 140 autistic adults and people with Asperger’s Syndrome, across the Thames Valley. We provide this support so that they can to live the lives they choose.

Ideal Candidates will –

  • Have experience of recruiting staff with knowledge of the social care sector desirable. Use their own initiative and ideas to run high volume campaigns
  • Have worked in Human Resources for at least one year; ideally have a good understanding of legislation and managing employee relations.
  • Have excellent communication, literacy and computer skills whilst being          self-motivated and a team player.
  • Demonstrate a pro-active approach to your work and be proficient in MS Excel & Word.
  • Be able to work within a small team, promoting the culture of the organisation whilst building relationships at all levels.
  • Be prepared to travel to our Didcot office on a regular basis (approx. weekly)

You will be responsible for the smooth running of our services. Your duties will include managing a staff team to include a range administrative tasks plus providing direct support to service users.

You will need to have management experience and also have worked with autistic adults with both learning disabilities and mental health.

NVQ level 4 is desirable but not essential as long as you have a willingness to undertake relevant training.

Our current chairman will stand down June 2019, therefore Autism at Kingwood is seeking a dynamic, experienced and committed individual to work with our Board of Trustees and the Senior Leadership Team in the pivotal role of Chairman.

We are looking for someone with a track record of success in strategic and operational leadership and experience as a non-executive director, Trustee or Chairman. You will have a keen understanding of governance and the ability to combine good judgement with excellent strategic and communication skills. You may already be a Chairman of Trustees, or looking for the opportunity to chair your first board. You will lead the Board of Trustees to ensure that the charity is properly governed and managed with a key focus on maximising the ‘quality of life for autistic adults’.

With the capacity to think creatively and offer fresh perspective you will bring the ability to engage at all levels internally and externally.

This is an unpaid voluntary position for which proper and reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. The initial term will be for three years with the expectation that it will be renewed for a second term of three years.

Autism at Kingwood is a registered Charity, limited by guarantee, providing support to adults on the autistic spectrum to lead happy and fulfilled lives in the community.  With a Head Office based in Lower Earley just off the M4 and a turnover of £6 million we work across the Thames Valley, in the counties of Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.  The charity employs almost 300 staff providing support to approximately 140 adults with autism and provides advice and guidance to more than 250 people with Asperger Syndrome each year.

The impending rotation of Trustees has created opportunities for interested parties to join the Autism at Kingwood Board. Whilst we welcome applications from all individuals who feel that have skills to so share, an individual with experience or interest in Human Resources, fundraising or communications, or a clinical background may be of benefit to the charity.

The Board meets in Reading four times a year and the charity’s governance also benefits from sub-committee meetings. Please see the attached brief for more information about Autism at Kingwood and the role.

Autism at Kingwood is looking to fill the Head of Finance position within the charity as the incumbent will be leaving in the latter part of 2019. Based in Lower Earley, Reading, and reporting to the Chief Executive, the Head of Finance is a pivotal role within the Senior Leadership Team. They have overall responsibility for the finances of the charity and personnel within the finance team.

This role requires someone who is fully competent managing budget setting. They will work with the team to draft the annual budget and forecasts; monitor them throughout the year; and work closely with budget holders to ensure they understand their financial position therefore the ability to communicate well within the team is critical.  In addition to business as usual, they will also contribute to the development of new projects, tenders and grant applications providing oversight on the financial aspects. Applications from a solution focused person with an interest in influencing and developing the charity’s finance function through systems and processes would be welcomed.

The success candidate will need to have:

  • Significant financial management experience of preparing management accounts
  • Experience and knowledge of financial management information systems
  • Experience of operating at both strategic and operational level.
  • Education to a degree level or a Business Management Qualification with a professional qualification i.e. ACCA, CCAB, ACA, CIMA

To succeed they will need to:

  • Be comfortable communicating effectively both orally and in writing; adapting the message for a diverse audience.

You will greatly assist in the development and delivery of the organisation-wide implementation of a Positive Behavioural Support approach and you will play a vital role in our mission to ensure people with autism achieve their aspirations and potential.
