Autism at Kingwood Psychology and Practice

As a specialist provider of autism support, Autism at Kingwood employs a dynamic and effective Psychology and Practice team, managed by clinical psychologist, Dr Sally Powis.

Sally and clinical psychologist Dr Kate Gordon provide individual clinical input to people we support with mental health challenges.

The team includes three Autism Support Practitioners, who can respond and work shifts in supported living houses when there is a need for enhanced, specialist support and assessment. Although we consider and train all our staff to be autism specialists, this fresh, expert input can really help the support workers in that service to consider alternative approaches and find positive solutions.

Three Autism Specialists provide training and guidance to staff, with a focus on developing an understanding of autism, Asperger Syndrome and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). They deliver PROACT Scipr training, which trains staff in proactive skills for working within their services, using PBS methods. The team project-lead our collaborative programme with Dogs for Good, an animal assisted intervention, where dogs are used to support people to gain confidence and independence.

Autism at Kingwood delivers the Oxfordshire Adult Autism Diagnostic & Support Service (OAADSS) on behalf of Oxfordshire Health. This includes some limited post-diagnostic support for newly diagnosed autistic adults by our team.
