• CEO update 2nd October

Whilst the number of people presenting with symptoms of colds has naturally increased with the autumnal weather setting in, in turn increasing the number of staff and people we support going for tests, we have had no new confirmed cases of Covid-19 this week. Incredibly we have had no new cases now since August. This is not something we take for granted and we will continue to strive to ensure the safety of the people we support and our staff, whilst continuing ‘business as usual’.

It is very important to us to include the people we support in our decision making. Our forums for the people we support paused during Covid-19, and we are now considering how best to engage with people we support to gather their views and input on how we operate. Any ideas from employees, relatives or autistic people would be welcomed. Please email Chief Operating Officer Estelle.Christmas@kingwood.org.uk if you have ideas you would like to share.

This month is Black History Month, and with coronavirus spotlighting the inequalities for BAME, as well as coverage of #BlackLivesMatter protests highlighting how ingrained racism is in western society, it is important not to let the pandemic overshadow the celebration and recognition of how essential racial and cultural diversity are for us to thrive as a nation. Visit the Black History Month website to delve deeper into Why Black History Month is more important than ever this year.

Wishing you a safe and happy weekend.

    Abi Cowley
