About Person Centered Planning

As defined by the Department of Health: “Person-centred planning is a way of discovering what people want, the support they need and how they can get it. It is an evidence-based practice that assists people in leading an independent and inclusive life. Person-centred planning is both an empowering philosophy and a set of tools for change at an individual, a team and organisational level. It shifts power from professionals to the people who use services.”

Person-centred planning enables independent living and real choice for people with autism and Asperger's. At Kingwood we embody this philosophy into everything we do, tailoring our approach to meet the wishes of the individual concerned. You may also find it helpful to read a briefing document produced by the Department of Health entitled -'At a glance: Personalisation briefing: implications for people with autistic spectrum conditions and their family carers.’ – February 2010.
