Expanding Your Horizons

Kingwood recognises that each individual has goals and aspirations they would like to develop. It may be trying new activities, seeking employment or learning new skills. Staff identify these goals then put plans in place to achieve them. Bob Horwood is our Community Resource & Development Manager and works with individuals and their support teams to explore opportunities for them to engage in new activities in the community, finding ways to break through barriers and difficulties that often have to be faced. There’s a wide range of jobs, training, interests and leisure activities currently undertaken by the people we support. Here’s a snap shot of what some of the people we support like to do:

• One individual has furnished his own home. His bookshelves are used to display an array of photographs, many of which he has taken himself.
• Several individuals enjoy making films; one individual's work was premiered at a special presentation in Oxford.
• After visiting his local stables, one individual has developed an aptitude for horse riding.
• One individual has discovered a talent for making jewellery. Since becoming involved with this activity he regularly sells pieces on eBay.
• One individual has helped Kingwood produce this website as part of our on-line team.
• Two individuals are undertaking work in an office.
