Donate to KingwoodA real difference has already been made to the lives of people Kingwood supports, made possible by generous donations from private individuals and families, foundations and other charitable organisations, companies, town councils and anonymous donors. Other donors support us by giving their time and access to professional services, all of whom collectively make possible projects that would otherwise be difficult, and sometimes impossible, to do. Some of the money is donated in support of specific activities, whilst other sums are given to use in the way Kingwood thinks best. Either way for every £1 donated, 93p goes direct to helping the people Kingwood supports and we are always looking for ways in which to reduce our costs further. How to donate
How was my donation spent?Whether you are an existing donor or someone who’s considering donating to Kingwood for the first time, it’s important you know how your money is spent. In the past financial year ended 31st March 2011 Kingwood supporters raised a total of £107,680 towards projects which made all kinds of activities possible for the people Kingwood supports. These projects included a horticulture project, extended activity programmes including holidays, community involvement programme and research into designing housing for people with autism. A more detailed breakdown of our expenditure for the financial year ended 31st March 2011 can be found in our Annual Report. Why we need your ongoing support - our target this yearAlthough the government and local authorities are responsible for funding core services, it’s the activities sometimes referred to as extras we need your assistance with. However because of the nature of the disabilities which affect the people we support, what others call extras - we call essentials. Take the visit to the shops referred to above, typically this would not be funded in situations where someone needs 2:1 support to go out. For the individual concerned though, their ability to go out is a vital link with the outside world and community life. Often it’s the small things which can and do make such a HUGE difference to the quality of someone’s life and it’s this difference we are committed to support. This year we face mounting concerns that in the present economic climate the ‘core’ is likely to shrink. In order to continue to maintain the programme of support and activities provided so far, we need to increase the funds we raise by a minimum of 10% We also hope to develop our services further, whilst catering for the requirements of the new people we plan to support. In particular we would like to develop specialist transition services for young people with autism and people with Asperger's in the coming 18 months. On behalf of Kingwood, thank you for helping the people we support to live the lives they choose for themselves. With your help there’s so much more which can be done to make possible a community where everyone is given the opportunity to achieve what they want out of life. |
